Vinnies Soup Van Program
Thanks to your support the Commentators Club is proud to announce the 2014 Luncheon donation amount of $24,000! In 2014, we were proud to support The Soup Van Program coordinated by the St Vincent de Paul Society.
There are 6 Soup Van Programs in operation, three across inner city Melbourne suburbs and three operating in regional areas. The program is an invaluable service to those experiencing homelessness and disadvantage, not only for the food it provides, but for the friendship and care that is shared among the volunteers and the people being assisted. The program helps marginalised people access blankets, toiletries, winter woollies and of course food. Some of the people they support rely totally on the food the program provide and would not manage without it. Many supported by the program are women, some are pregnant, most have experienced family violence and as a result are now experiencing homelessness. Some of these women find it safer sleeping rough on the streets than in the place they were residing where they experienced the trauma of domestic violence. This program recognises that homelessness is more than just having a roof over your head; it is the disconnection from society, the loneliness and isolation that many of the people they assist experience. It's great to know we make a difference! We just received this wonderful letter from St Vincent de Paul. Thank you to everyone who supported us last year!!
